Course Details
Dates
The programme commences on Saturday, 13th September 2008, registration for the course starts at 11am. Please aim to arrive between 10am and 11am in order to get settled into your room; if this is not possible because of distance you are most welcome to arrive the day before, just let us know in advance. We can arrange accommodation for anyone who has travelled with you if they need it – again, contact us in advance to make the arrangements.
Directions and practical details will be sent to successful applicants prior to the course beginning. If you have lost these details or need them to be resent, please email us.
The first part of the course (E4S1) finishes on the evening of Wednesday evening 12th December - you will be free to leave on Thursday 13th December. You will need to make your own arrangements for travel to and from the training. Please note there may be weekend activities and/or duties throughout the training period, so please seek permission if you need to arrange a weekend away.
We don’t encourage students to make many home visits during the training period, the reason for this is that it is a gentle preparation for a placement where distance to family and friends may be great, and a high level of integration with the people around you is vital for a happy and successful time.
Cost
Total cost for the course - £4200 - this is broken down into:
Equipping for Service Part 1 (E4S1) - £2200. A deposit of £200.00 is payable by the 1st of September 2008. A further £1000.00 is due by the 15th of September and a further £1000 payment by the end of October. This covers food and accommodation as well as travel costs and course materials.
Equipping for Service Part 2 (E4S2) - £2000. The first £1000 is due by the 5th of January and the final payment of £1000 by the beginning of April. This cost does not include food and accomodation.
Food Hygiene Certificate
An important part of the course is preparing meals for yourself and the others. In order to use the kitchens you will need to hold a current ‘Food Hygiene Certificate’. We will send you details of an online Food Hygiene Course that you are required to complete before you arrive. It only takes one hour and the cost is covered in your course fees.
Medical issues
Because we include overseas travel in the training, it is vital that you have had the following vaccinations BEFORE you arrive to begin the course:
- Hepatitis A
- Tetanus
- Polio
- Typhoid
It is YOUR responsibility to have the vaccinations BEFORE you arrive, you will not be able to get the vaccinations locally, as you will be legally considered a ‘visitor’ to the area. Please note also that some injections may need to be taken several months before departure date.
American students having great difficulty obtaining a Typhoid vaccination in the USA should contact us immediately so that we can help you obtain the vaccination once you arrive.
Dental and Eye Check-ups
Before commencing the Training Programme please ensure you have dental and eye check-ups, this is just so that you are less likely to have trouble while you are away! It is possibly safer, easier and cheaper to deal with things in your home country rather than abroad. You should also have a copy of your current prescription should you need glasses.
Criminal Records Enhanced Disclosure Certificate
In the interests of clarity, accountability and safety for all concerned, we require everyone to have completed a full Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check before coming on the course. Precise details of how to obtain a CRB check will be sent to you.
WH Child Protection Forms
We will send you our ‘World Horizons Internal Child Protection Form’ and two associated ‘WH internal CP Reference Forms’ please ensure that you complete and return them. These are required even if you do not intend to work with children as there will be children frequenting and/or living in the same building as you.
Kit list
A suggested Kit List is available here, in general though you should aim to keep personal belongings to a minimum, as space is limited.
