Camps

Camp activities

Part of our work has been running adventure activity camps for young people, for the last 20 years.

We’ve found that the adventure and challenge of outdoor pursuits provides an excellent foundation from which to develop and build character, share the gospel, and train people for future ministry.

What sort of people come on camps?

We run camps for groups that are predominantly Christian, and for groups that aren’t. The minimum age is 11 and there is no maximum age. We don’t run a standard programme; each week or weekend is designed around the group in conjunction with group leaders.

What happens on a camp?

Rope bridge Typically each day is spent doing an activity built around kayaking, climbing, abseiling, mountaineering (including overnight camps), caving, orienteering, etc. Where possible we aim to teach skills and give responsibility. E.g., a mountaineering day might include training in 'search and rescue', searching for a body and then executing a rescue.

Most of the activities are on the Gower peninsular or in the Brecon Beacons. This means that we usually drive to activity sites. Before leaving the centre we typically have a short devotional ‘spot’. The evenings are mainly kept free for meetings, which usually involve music, drama, talks and games, etc.

Details

A weekend is £90 per person and a week is £185 per person. To book a weekend or week a deposit of £200 is required. Included in the price are food and accommodation, activities instruction, and specialist equipment (this does not include waterproof tops, bottoms and hiking boots, although these are available to hire on a daily basis.) We expect you to provide transport for the group during the camp. We provide transport for our staff. We will reimburse you for the fuel costs during the week.

A week runs from Saturday 4pm to Friday 2pm. A weekend runs from Friday 6pm to Sunday 4pm.

What are the aims of camps?

We do not run standard weeks and weekends but work out a programme, in conjunction with the group leaders, suitable for the group and designed to achieve specific aims.
We will be asking you what your aims are in bringing a group to us. To help you here are some aims groups typically have:

  • Time to build deeper relationships within the group
  • To challenge and develop character
  • To share the gospel
  • To challenge people to get involved with overseas missions
  • To develop teamwork and leadership skills
  • To encourage and build people up
